Calais Duty Free FAQs
What is the duty free allowance in Calais?
If you are entering the UK, the basic rules are that you are allowed to bring in 42 litres of beer, 18 litres of still wine, 4 litres of spirits OR 9 litres of sparkling wine. In addition to alcohol, you are allowed 200 cigarettes OR 100 cigarillos OR 50 cigars OR 250g of tobacco (or a combination of these quantities). In terms of other goods, your Duty Free Calais allowance is £390 of fragrances, cosmetics, souvenirs, gifts and electrical products.
What are the rules for duty free shopping?
There are different rules depending on whether you are buying your duty free before entering France or the UK. The goods must be for your own use, and not for commercial purposes. Sharing of duty free allowances is not permitted. People under the age of 17 are not permitted alcohol or tobacco duty free allowances.
How to get duty free in France
To buy at LeShuttle’s duty free shop in our Calais terminal, you need an individual QR code. This is included in your booking confirmation, but other members of your party can register before they travel to receive their QR code. You just need to show your QR code at the till at our duty free Calais shop.
Can I buy duty free on the way out and bring it back?
Yes, but it will count as your total duty free allowance. So if you bought 200 cigarettes at our Folkestone terminal on the way over to France, if you have 100 left on your return trip, you can only buy another 100 at our Calais duty free shop.
